ISO 10005 provides guidelines for the development, review, acceptance, application and revision of quality plans. It was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 176, Quality management and quality assurance, Subcommittee SC 2, Quality systems. It is a great guideline to meet the requirement of the project quality management as a part of project management frameworks. It is applicable whether or not the organisation has a management system in conformity with ISO 9001. ISO 10005 is applicable to quality plans for a process, product, project or contract, any product category (hardware, software, processed materials and services) and any industry.

It is focused primarily on product realisation and is not a guide to organisational quality management system planning. It is a guidance document and is not intended to be used for certification or registration purposes. About Standard and its application This International Standard was prepared to address the need for guidance on quality plans, either in the context of an established quality management system or as an independent management activity. In either case, quality plans provide a means of relating specific requirements of the process, product, project or contract to work methods and practices that support product realisation. The quality plan should be compatible with other associated project plans that may be prepared. As ISO 9000 defines, quality plan is a document specifying which procedure and associated resources shall be applied by whom and when to a specific project, product, process or contract.

Establishing a quality plan gives the increased confidence that requirements of the project quality will be met, greater assurance that processes are in control and the motivation it can give to those involved.
